Fundraising is easy. We’ll help you get started!
Tip 1: Connect!
E-mail family and friends at least three times:
- As soon as you register
- 2-3 weeks after you register
- 1 week prior to the fundraising deadline
Let them know that by raising money you’ll be helping others and giving yourself the chance to meet someone extraordinary!
Here’s an example e-mail:
SUBJECT: Please help me help others AND meet a hero!
As you know, I am crazy about gymnastics!
I’m participating in a fundraiser with Nastia Liukin to raise funds for Bikes 4 Kids & Youth First Community of Promise.
At Bikes 4 Kids, bikes are donated to us from local bike shops, recycling centers, city governments and individuals. We then refurbish these bikes and give them away, along with a helmet and lock, to someone who might not otherwise be able to afford one. We work through social services organizations to locate families in Minnesota who are in need.
Youth First is the only FREE neighborhood based after school program in our community. Our youth are eager for a place they can go when school is not in session and our parents rely on the safe and structured programming their youth are involved in during our program.
Besides helping others, as I raise money, I’ll win awesome prizes, including the chance to spend the day with one of my heroes: Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin!
Please consider making a donation to this fundraiser today.
Donating is really easy. To donate on-line go to: JamHopswithNastia.org
If you’d rather send a check, write my name in the memo field, make the check payable to Jam Hops and mail to:

Thank you so much for your support!
Tip 2: Share Your Cause
Make sure to tell all of your donors that their donations will help fund Bikes 4 Kids & Youth First Community of Promise.
Tip 3: Make it Personal
Tell your story! Explain why it’s important to you to raise money for a charitable cause, and what it will mean to you to meet Nastia Liukin.
Tip 4: Ask Often & Freely
It sounds simple, but people will only give if they are asked to give… So make sure you ask! And, best of all, the worst thing that can happen is this: They’ll say no. That’s it! Make each “ask” personal, and reach out to everyone you know. Be persistent and follow up your e-mails with phone calls.
Tip 5: Show Your Gratitude
Be sure to thank your donors as soon as possible after they donate. Update them on your progress and show them the impact they are making.
Tip 6: Get Social
Make sure you promote your fundraising efforts on all of your social media pages. For extra impact, make a fundraising video!
Tip 7: Follow Up
Many people need to be reminded to give. Don’t be discouraged if your first contact doesn’t get a response. It’s okay to follow up!
Tip 8: Match for More
Some of your donors may work for companies that will match their donation. Whatever amount your donor gives, the company will give the same! Make sure you mention this to your donors. If the donor’s employer has any questions, they can e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tip 9: Special Events
Consider donating money from your birthday or other special occasion to earn additional moments with Nastia Liukin at the event while helping raise funds for Bikes 4 Kids & Youth First Community of Promise.
